Here is Greta Thunberg on a strike for Climate Change!

Greta Thunberg
Biography

Climate Change has been affecting many kinds of things these days. The adults are giving up and not waking up and doing something about it. This is where children around the world like Greta Thunberg step in!

Well, who is Greta Thungberg you may ask? Greta Tintin Eleonora Thunberg is a 16 Year Old young Swedish girl. Greta is known for being a young activist campaigning for Climate Change. Greta became well known at the age of 15, when she sat outside of the Swedish Parliament and protested about immediate actions towards climate change. Since then, this teen became an outspoken activist towards global warming.

Greta Thunberg is a young teen who has touched everyone from the news to different articles. Her actions have put adults through a little shame and a wake up call for many people world-wide! This teen has been very committed to being a climate activist as her and a whole bunch of pupils miss out on their own learning to go on school strikes to make a change. Greta has been interviewed a lot during the school strikes, visited climate conferences where she shares her opinions and has even met President Obama!

Everyone can learn many things about this young teen. As Greta has shown, even at a young age you can start stepping up for what’s right! In order to do something like this, you've got to have the courage and be brave just like Greta, even though she was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, OCD and Selective Mutism, which means she can only speak when things are necessary. That must be really hard to go through! That’s why we can learn many things from Greta Thunberg. What an awesome example!

Task Description: This week for writing, Room 2 literacy has been focusing on a very different type of writing style. This style is Biography. First, Miss Tapuke got us to share our opinions on what we think is Biography. Some of us had no idea and others had a clear understanding. After uncovering what Biography is, we made a grapic organiser to brain storm about the person we are talking about. Which led to this biography about Greta Thunberg. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this Biography!

Empanadas 🇦🇷

Room 4 has been a really lucky class! Today, we got to eat delicious empanadas! Empanadas are known to be a traditional dish to the amazing country Argentina. Inside this spicy dish is spicy paprika, mild spice (so we don't cry our eyes out!) Our teacher also added capsicum, mince, onion and spice. Therefore it's a puff pastry filled with meat and vegetables!

The Smell and Look: The pastry looks golden brown on the outer side and the middle part is cooked just right. The meat looks dark brown with a hint of bright red capsicum. The rest are buried under the meat. It smells like a sausage roll from the bakery with a hint of spice and sweetness!

The Taste: The pastry taste very plain but a good plain. The sweetness kind of over powered the spiciness but it taste very nice. The meat taste awesome and the vegetables are a good addition to the meat and it's like a burst of flavour in your mouth!

🌎 South America 🌎

Task Description: This week the continent we have focused on is South America. To further our understanding about this continent, we looked at some videos looking into particular country's inside the continent and also listen to what other kids in our class have to say about the continent. After that, we all went and picked a country and did our own research of a particular country. I hope you enjoy!

🌍 Europe & America 🌍

Walt: Learn the difference and similarities between two continents (country).

Europe and America have many similarities because way back Europe colonised North America. During this time Europe brought over a lot of things such as their culture, foods and traditions. Even though colonisation doesn't happen between them now, these two country's still do a lot of trading. Let's look at food for an example, Pizza originated in Italy located in Europe. America took pizza and made it and improvised the different flavours. In Italy they made their pizzas more traditional and hand made whereas America makes lots of  bulk Pizza from companies like Dominoes. There are many more things about these two countries so I will share them soon!

Reading // Review - Frozen Food 🍉🍇

WALT: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text

Title: Frozen Food
Written by: Philippa Werry
Fiction // Non-Fiction

This story called, Frozen Food, is all about the different foods in Scott Base (New Zealand's Base) in Antarctica. As you know the title is called Frozen Food therefore the story is talking about what type of food they eat, how to cook it and how the food is stored. Scott Base is known to house around 80 people over summer, but only 10 or 12 stay in winter. I learn't a lot of things in this story and I also learned about all the very strict rules when it actually comes to eating. Did you know that even though it's Antarctica, they still need to use fridges and freezers to store there food.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The reason for this, is that I am not familiar with books like this and reading it makes me more interested in learning more about it. I strongly think that the author of this story is trying to promote living in Antarctica and also deny the assumptions about it by giving an example of how they work with the food. I would recommend this text to all ages. Kids can get a good idea of what Antarctica is like and Adults can make the mature decision whether they actually want to move their.
