Quick Write: Immersion Assembly

It’s back to school whanau! You know what that means…..Immersion Assembly! Immersion Assembly is a time where all the students of Point England meet in the school hall, where all the teachers and staff prepare an item or mtv to present our school topic! I walked into the hall, eager to see what was instore for us. I see the huge screen with the words Life’s a Stage! While we were getting ready to be seated, I could hear the music playing in the background. Various songs played which were remixed by Mr Jacobsen were smoothly blasting across the hall. Once we were all settled, we let the show begin!

Mr Burt was at the front doing his normal greeting. Since it’s Niuean Language Weeking Mr Burt yelled out loud FAKALOFA LAHI ATU PT ENGLAND! We all replied back, giggling at his amusing costume. It consisted of a messy wig coloured blue, red and white. Funky! He wore a skirt that I found pretty weird, and a bright t-shirt to top it off. He went on to explain how many cultural dances can explain different stories. Mr Burt was blurbing out words of excitement when Mr Jacobsen cut him off. “Mr Burt! Can I tell my story?!”, he said with eagerness. Mr Burt replied with a yes and the first item was underway!

Mr Jacobsen held the mic up and spoke with enthusiasm. “Well you guys know this story...🎶There once was a little boy, who lived in Eketahuna.🎶 Mr Burt was acting out all the words of the classic, original Pt England song - Is it Kind. Mr Jacobsen and Mr Burt both entertained us with that one verse. We chuckled at the site of the two crazy men. Mr Jacobsen proceeded to sing the second verse. 🎶Delilah was a little girl, she lived in Eketahuna. She likes to ride her motorbike- 🎶 VRROOM! A sudden noise of an engine cranking scattered across the hall. We all draw our attention to the back where the noise came from. HAHAHAHAHAH! The whole school bursts out in laughter at the site of Mr Sommerville. VRROOM! VRROOM! He was wearing a fuzzy blond wig which just made us all lose it.

Mrs Tele’a also made some short appearances when it came to the line. 🎶 Taught to them by their moooootttthhheeerrrr. 🎶 Once it came to the chorus the whole school sang the song. This was my favourite item because I found it amusing and hilarious. What a great item!

Term 2 - Immersion Assembly 👍👍

YESSSS! We're back at school. Everyone is feeling great and happy to start a new term Term 2! I myself was very excited to see my friends after a holiday that felt like will never end. Me and my friends have had a great start together and it feels awesome.

To kick off this term, We started with an Immersion Assembly. Immersion Assembly is when the whole school comes together and the the teachers get to present in any way the brand new theme for this term. I wasn't nervous about anything because I knew it was going to be awesome. The theme for this term is I Like Your Latitude!

All teams had very great ways to present what their going to learn about. Team 1's main topic for this term is about bee's and how they can produce things like fruit which helps us live. Team 2 get to have fun treasure hunts and Team 3 is creating fun pick a path stories where you get to choose your own path in a story. Team 4 is mainly focusing on navigation. I was interested in their little skit because they used olden day material instead of a GPS. Finally the best team, my team, TEAM 5 had a great act where one teacher got to visit continents. We are learning about where different country are.

This term a country I really want to learn about is South Korea. Their are a lot of conflicts in that area which I want learn a lot more about and their is also K-POP that is slowly taking over the world by storm. One of my favourite bands is BTS. Overall I am really excited to learn more about countrys this term!

Now That's Thinking!

Walt: Use exciting language!

Writing:

Stepping into the hall I heard bright music, instead the music I heard was about idea’s and thinking! Then I started to look around. There I see Mr Burt using like 3 or 4 netbooks. Wow! From there I sat down still amazed by all the chromebooks Mr Burt had and from there I knew that it is going to be an exciting assembly!

As I was sitting down I see Mr Burt standing in front of our new and extraordinary theme! Yes and it was called Now that's thinking! I started to think about what are the other teams doing that goes with our new topic? We started off with a CRAZY story about Pt England and how they developed different kinds of netbooks. Teams 1-3 were all focusing on the same creative topic with kites, each team had their own movie to represent why there making interesting kites. Well Team 5’s topic was a Bob the builder theme. They were looking at fixing things around there area as we saw from there funny act!

Finally Team 4 my fabulous team are focusing on What kinds of technology the maori used before Pakeha arrived in New Zealand? It kinds of sounds boring to some people but it actually sounds cool and interesting to me! Our movie was kind of like a discussion that our teachers had and came up with hilarious idea’s. They talked about technology in the past like how one of their old phones could not even text! Which was really boring! But they finally came up with one idea after their creative discussion.

As part of Team 4’s topic I am hoping that we actually get to create the things that the maori used as technolgy. I have learnt only a little about the waka’s but I would really love to learn more. I also hope I get to learn about what the other teams are doing, especially the kites!

Overall I think that it is going to be a FANTASTIC term! Thinking about the new term topic makes me think more creatively into things! I also think that  team 4 are going to have so much fun learning about What kinds of technology the maori used before Pakeha arrived in New Zealand? I also can’t wait to see Teams 1 - 3’s amazing kite and the new things Team 5 will be doing to their block, I can’t wait for this extraordinary term.
