Numeracy - Making 3D Shapes and Nets

Today in Maths (Period 1) we learned how to create 3D shapes and nets. We used an online site called GeoGebra to create our shapes. As a starter, we followed an instructional video online, guiding us through how to create a 3D Pentagonal Shape with nets. Throughout the process of creating the shapes, we were able to independently construct our own shapes such as Pyramids, Cylinders, etc. I will be sharing a step-by-step presentation on how to create a 3D Pentagonal Shape.

Science - Greenhouse Effect

For the past few weeks our learning focus in science has been around global warming. We learned different aspects of Climate Change along with several tasks that we had to complete. We also focused on the Greenhouse Effect and the influence it has on our environment, people, etc. We also had to complete a task where we had to re-search and collect information about celebrities/public figures perspectives on Climate Change.

Greenhouse gas - Wikipedia

What is the Greenhouse Effect?

This effect consists of 7 primary gases such as, Carbon Dioxide, Ozone, Nitrous Oxide, Chlorofluorocarbons, Methane, and Water Vapour, of these different gases, Water Vapour, Methane, and Carbon Dioxide are the main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect. Each gas engages with the sun's heat by trapping it. Carbon dioxide, Methane, Water Vapour, and Nitrous Oxide are the four primary gases within the earth's atmosphere.

All of this crucially contributes to maintaining the earth's warmth and sustaining comfortable living throughout the earth. However, I believe ever since industrial evolution (example: burning fossil fuels) and majority of human activity is causing majority of climate change. Problems such as factories producing toxic materials and gases all are released into the atmosphere and inevitably damaging natural resources costing our lives. We need to start implementing the obvious solutions many people have concluded to these problems before they become irreversible.

Social Studies - Bastion Point

This week in Social Studies, we have been focusing on Bastion Point and the historical events that took place year's prior. Our task was to complete an assignment about Bastion Point featuring its background, conflict etc. I worked collaboratively with Makayla and Grace to complete this presentation. All design was created by us, and all images were from google. I hope reading this presentation enables you to gain a powerful understanding of the injustice between the Ngati Whatua and the NZ Government. "Bastion Point is Maori land"

Smart Goals - Maths

05/02/21 - Friday, Week 1

Today in Maths, we made smart goals. Smart Goal is an acronym used as a guide to help people achieve their goals. We used this guide to set our goals in our Math's Class. Here are the goals that I set for myself:

S - specific, I want to improve my PAT SCORE
M - measure, focus on doing 15 minutes of homework, gradually add on time throughout the learning period. I will track the time.
A - achievable, I have the resources to complete this task.
R - realistic, is this relevant, and achievable, yes, yes indeed!
T - time, I need to track the time of my learning and check-in for improvement.

These are the goals that I have set for myself, I hope that I will be able to achieve this by the end of the term.

Waitangi Day!

Image result for the treaty of waitangi

Waitangi Day is a day celebrated by New Zealand which marks the day when the treaty was signed, specifically the 6th of February, 1840. The treaty was signed to restore peace between the two countries in which they also created the 3 P’s. Participation, Protection and Partnership.

The treaty was first signed by Hone Heke and about 40 rangatiras (chiefs) who also participated in the signing. British officials and missionaries then took the treaty around the country in order to collect more signatures.

There are 3 main perspectives on the Treaty of Waitangi. One perspective is that it is celebrated to remember the history between the two countries and how it explores the many aspects of the treaty. The second perspective is that it is embarrassing to celebrate the Treaty of Waitangi, due to the huge conflict between the Maori and British empire, this perspective acknowledges the unfairness and cruelty during the signing of Waitangi. The last perspective simply celebrates Waitangi as a day off work.

I believe that there are several parts to the treaty that not many people acknowledge such as the heavy conflict. However, if we are able to remember this historical date by acknowledging and expressing all aspects, good and bad of the treaty, we will be able to celebrate and honour this day fairly as well as remain knowledgeable about the history.

The Treaty of Waitangi is absolutely important to learn about, especially in our schools. We need to be able to comprehend and explore what really went down on that day, and formulate our own perspective on this day.
