SLJ ~ W4 D5 A1/2/3 The Sky's The Limit ~ THE LAST DAY!!

Kia Ora to whoever is reading this. Today is the final last day of the Summer Learning Journey. I’ve learnt many things from this program and I am truly thankful for all the help they have given us students. Today’s theme is  The Sky’s The Limit!

Week 4: Protect and Preserve
Day 5: The Sky’s The Limit!

Activity 1: Environment Day ~ Beat Plastic Pollution
#Beat Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution is a major problem around the world. Most people don’t really care about it because there so busy creating it! Therefore it’s better if we come together as one and #Beat Plastic Pollution! One thing I can do to protect the earth is putting the right rubbish in the bin. When we put the right thing in the right bin it can help us decrease the number of rubbish that we create.

The second thing that I can do to the planet is just simply clean up! When we just do a simple thing like cleaning up it can help keep everything nice and clear. For example doing easy thing like picking up rubbish twice a day can make a good change to the world. So the next time you think about making a change start with picking up a piece of rubbish!

The last way we can help the planet is by stop creating landfills. The more landfills we create the more the earth becomes sad. Therefore the best thing to think about now is the waste we make. A way to help stop creating landfills is to buy things with less packaging and reduce food waste.

Activity 2: Adoption Day
Compare & Contrast

There are a lot of animals who are being adopted by many people! I think that putting animals up for adoption is a very good idea but at the same time it’s not. The positive side is that they get to live in a better environment away from predators but, the bad side is the animals are separated from family, and I know you could adopt them all but know it’s actually really expensive and it can cost up to $55. Over here in this google draw I have created, I have done a compare and contrast between three animals that are up for adoption. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Concluding the Journey
The End

First of all I’d like to take this time to say a enormous thank you to the Summer Learning Journey crew. It has been an amazing journey and I really loved every single little bit! Thanks to all the people who took there time to make this happen and I am really thankful. I’d like to give a special shout out to Rachel, Izzy, Sophie, Patricia, Mikey and Billy for taking you time to comment on my post, fix my mistakes and just thanks for the motivation you have given me! Congratulations to other students who have finished already and to those who are not just keep going! I ask god to bless all of you, I can’t express how much I thank you and again HUGE THANKS SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: What was your favourite post from the Summer Learning Journey??!!

Task Description: Yes! I have finally finished the Summer Learning Journey 2018 - 2019 program!! Another big thanks to all the people who have commented and helped out with the program and I am sure other people are thankful too. This is the last summary of my work for Summer Learning Journey. For the first activity we were asked to list down three ways we can help #BeatPlasticPollution. The second task was about adoption. We had to compare and contrast three different animals that are up for adoption. Finally, the final task was just a big whole review of the program and all the things we’ve done. This is the end of the journey until we get back to school so goodbye for now!

SLJ ~ W4 D4 A1/2/3 Making Promises

Kia Ora blog viewers! Today I am going to be finishing the second to last day of the Summer Learning Journey. It’s really sad but I’m definitely going to be pushing myself harder this time because I want to learn heaps! Today’s theme is Making Promises. Let’s dive through!!

Week 4 ~ Day 4: Making Promises

Activity 1: Campaigning for the Conservation
Nike ~ Just Do It
Related image

Image Attribution

The campaign that I decided to choose is Nike ~ Just Do It! I chose this over McDonalds because of health reasons. Nike ~ Just Do It means to give it a go and have a try. That’s what most people need in there lives motivation to do things. Nike is a good company that sells a lot of stuff that is fitness and sport related. Therefore I think Nike’s slogan is very good as it’s a good company that like to help people to get more fit and healthy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: The Plastic Pledge
How do you feel about Countdown going plastic free?

I asked my sister how she felt about this plastic free program:
Image result for countdown plastic bags

She thought that it was a really good thing that local stores are thinking about canceling the use of plastic bags. Even though we don’t really go there a lot we still support their decision towards this problem. But I’m not gonna lie it was pretty hard to let the plastic bags go because we were always used to the stores providing them! Other stores like pak n save have decided to stop selling plastic bags as well which is a store that we always go to. This is what my sister feels about Countdown going plastic free!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Restricted Access
Machu Picchu
Image result for machu picchu

I really agree with the decision that the government has made. Looking at the picture it makes me want to go there as well. It would just make me super excited. The picture has a beautiful scenery and bright green grasses that just brightens your eyes up! I still support their decision about this problem. It’s better to keep our history nice and safe away from people who want to damage beautiful sites like this one. Therefore my final decision is yes! I agree with the government.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: Have you ever visited the Machu Picchu

Task Description: Today I have finally finished week four day three of the summer learning journey. It’s getting really close to the end of the summer learning journey and I am trying to get things done and dusted! The first activity was about slogans. We had to choose a slogan and explain why we supported that. For the next task we had to ask anyone in our house what do they think about countdown going plastic free. For the final task we were asked whether we think the government has made a good decision about restricting some people from going to the Machu Picchu. This was all for today people. Thanks for tuning in and remember to stay tune for more posts!

SLJ ~ W4 D3 A1/2/3 Taking Action

Kia Ora viewers! Another day and more work here on my blog. Thanks for tuning in. Today we will be completing day 3 of week four for the summer learning journey. I am so excited to start today. The theme for today is Taking Action. I know I’m late for the Summer Learning Journey but I just want to get all the activities finish. Let’s Go!!

Week 3 Day 3: Taking Action

Activity 1: Predator Free 2050 - A Call to Arms
Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP)
Out of all three videos my final decision would have to be the ZIP video. I think that this predator free video was absolutely the best because it shows how people can work together as one. What I mean by this is that I really like how to company’s (NEXT/DOC) formed as one to help solve this problem. This really touched me and it encouraged myself to be aware of predators. The second reason why I thought that it was the best was because they showed that they really cared about our native birds because it’s a problem that half of New Zealand don’t even care about. This is why I think this was the best video.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Protecting the Most Vulnerable - Fact or Fiction?
Maui Dolphins
Maui Dolphins are endemic to New Zealand. It is very close to extinction and right now are only about 63 of these dolphins that are gliding through the sea. It’s very sad but many people are working on this problem. In this google draw I have created a little fact or fiction poster. Out of all of these images there are only three facts that are right and three facts that are wrong. It’s up to you to find out which ones are a fact or just fiction!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: The Power Of Ten
10 species (animal or plants) I would save

Here is a presentation I have created that is about 10 species animals or plants that I would save. These are ten I have written but I think through the years I will end up changing my mind whether I really want these ten species. If you were given this question what would you choose?!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: Did you know that Maui Dolphins only live for a short period of time?!

Task Description: Today I have finally finished today’s tasks. As you know today’s theme is Taking Action. Here is my summary of today's work. The first activity was all about ZIP. We were given three video focusing on the predator free project and were asked to choose out of all three which was the best. The next task was about Maui Dolphins. We had to write three facts that are true and three made up facts of our own! Then we had to write to write three facts that are wrong and three facts that are right. For the final task we had to pick ten species (animal or plants). Well that’s all for today people! Remember to stay tuned for more posts.

SLJ ~ W4 D2 A1/2/3 Protecting Our Own

Hey blog viewers! Today we are moving on to week four day two. I am so excited to be completing today’s tasks. The theme for today is protecting our own. Let’s dive through!

Week 4 Day 2: Protecting our Own

Activity 1: A Flying Fox
Ziplining in Rotorua!
Image result for ziplining in rotorua
Image Attribution

Going ziplining in rotorua would definitely be a huge blast! Imagine zooming past the towering green trees like your floating in the beautiful air. It’s like going on a ordinary flying fox but it’s 2x higher. Ziplining would be super awesome because you don’t get to walk on dirty leaves, gooey dirt and mushy mud! It’s sad that the forest is being seriously damaged due to a lot of walking but, that won’t matter because where on a dashing zipline. Lucky I don’t have a fear of heights because ziplining looks like a great thing to do. I would just feel like the flash!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: A Protective Plant
10 veggies, fruits or herbs I would plant!
Image result for vegetable gardens
Image Attribution

Potatoes
Onion
Watermelon
Tomatoes
Salad Leaves
Strawberry’s
Basils
Pasley
Celery
Peach

If I were to grow ten veggies, fruits or herbs I would pick these. I went for veggies and herbs that would be useful for the family so we don’t need to go to the store and keep buying veggies and herbs. I also chose specific fruits that my family enjoy eating so when ever we feel quite hungry we can go outside and pick from our beautiful garden!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: A House is Not a Home
The Sustainable Lansan Project
Image result for Lansan project
The Sustainable Lansan Project
The thing that interested me the most was this project. It is called the Sustainable Lansan Project. (a project that is trying to save a foreign tree) The problem with this tree is that locals in the area have been cutting down the endangered tree to create a fragrance that can ward off mosquitoes and it’s believed to also ward of evil spirits. What the project is trying to do is help stop the number of tree’s from decreasing but at the same time not interfere with the locals. This caught my attention because local people use it as a fragrance to ward of mosquitoes and believed to also ward of evil spirits. The crazier part is that 60% of saint lucians purchase the incense which is crazy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: Did you know that peanuts grow from the ground?!

Task Description: Yes I have finally completed week four day 2 of the summer learning journey. As you know the theme today is protecting our own! Here is the summary of my work. The first activity for day 1 was called a flying fox. In this activity we had to write down how we feel about ziplining in rotorua. Secondly, we had to write down 10 veggies, fruit or herbs that I would grown in a garden. For the final task we had to research about a couple of projects then choose one that is interesting to me. Well this was all I have done today. Thanks for tuning in and remember to stay tune for more posts!

SLJ ~ W4 D1 A1/2/3 Preserving the Past

Hey blog viewers! Today we are finally starting week four of the Summer Learning Journey. I can’t wait to learn a whole lot of new things this week and I am incredibly excited. The theme today is preserving the past. Lets dive through!

Week 4: Protect and Preserve
Day 1: Preserving the Past

Activity 1: World of Wearable (WOW) Art
What questions would I ask Dame Suzie Moncrieff?

Dame Suzie Moncrieff was the famous creator of a crazy competition called the World Of Wearable (WOW) Art. This competition has one main priority and it is recycled items. Many people from around the world take time making their jaw breaking creations using recycled items. Then they bring it to the competition to get judged. If I were invited to this years WOW awards and I got to interview Dame Suzie Moncrieff these are five questions I would ask her.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Guardians of the Sea
Is it real?!
Image result for taniwha
Image Attribution

After reviewing the video and reading the text I don’t believe that this mythical creature is true even though the video was really strange but, hear me out first. I’m not saying this in a way to attack the Maori culture I just want to let people know that I have my own opinion that I can express and other people do to. When I was watching the video and I saw the bubbles I thought to myself that I could be anything. Why? Well viewing the pictures of the taniwha it seems that is very big. Therefore if it actually was the taniwha we could’ve got an clear sighing of it because of how big the creature is. The second thing I want to look at is the text. Since it’s a myth it could be from thousands of years ago. That means they would’ve already been extinct so no one could ever actually see one in real life. Anyways this is how I feel about this taniwha situation with my backup information.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: The Sky in Shanghai
Traveling to Beijing
Image result for beijing smog

I’ve arrived in Beijing! My flight was very weezy.
I’m riding on the bus It stopped without a fus.
I stepped outside to endure the light But to my surprise it was dark as night.
Then smoke past by my face I coughed I must've had a taste.
I saw locals wearing surgical masks
Well I should’ve thought that when I what packing my stuff!
Oh how I already miss New Zealand!
But I see the hotel that I’m staying in.
I have a really bad vibe
Lets just make it a good time?!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: Did you know that people use recycle items to create gowns!

Task Description: Today I am finally starting day 1 of week 4 for the summer learning journey! I am really happy because I get to learn new things everyday. This is summary of what I have done. For the first task we got the chance to ask a famous women called Dame five questions. I asked her five questions based on her experience with what she is doing. The second task was about sharing our own opinion towards something. We were asked if we believe if the taniwha is a real creature. I answered this question by sharing my backup information to why I think what it is. Finally, the last task was about a poem. We were asked to write a poem about a trip to Beijing. Well that was all for today people. Thanks for visiting and always remember to stay tune for more posts.

SLJ ~ W3 D5 A1/2/3 Here to Stay

Kia Ora Blog viewers! I’m am very sorry I haven’t been up to date with all the blog posts. It’s been very busy and I did not have much time to sit down and get some work done but here I am. Today’s theme is Here to stay and here are all my activities for today. Enjoy!

Week 3 Day 5: Here to Stay

Activity 1: Persistent Pollution
Climate 101: Air Pollution
Image result for air pollution
Image Attribution
Three new things I have learnt about air pollution:

A big thing that people did not know (especially me) about air pollution is that it can be caused by natural sources around us. These natural sources can be the toxic smoke that comes straight from volcanic eruptions or wildfires that is a general term which includes forest fires, bush fires and a few more. It can also be caused by allergens such as dust and pollen which is a common allergy for humans.

It’s not only these natural sources that are causing serious air pollution it’s us humans too! The air pollution that we create is a main result from human activities. Smog is one of the types of human made air pollution. What Smog does is that it decreases visibility and has major health effects. Smog is not only known to help decrease visibility, but it can also torment plants and irritate the eyes which is really dangerous for us humans.

Another type of air pollution that I have learnt about is called toxic pollutants. This type of air pollution can have a non-positive effect to the environment and our health. When it comes to health problems it can cause major things such as cancer, reproductive complications and birth effects. Therefore it’s better to keep in mind of the consequences towards these types of air pollutions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Changing Climates
What I like to do on a rainy day
Image result for rainy day

When it comes to rainy days and it’s too wet to go outside (1) I like to watch movies with the fam. What we do is grab all our pillows and blankets, throw them in the living room and put a movie on the tv. That way were all nice, warm and comfy. (2) Baking is a activity that always comes to mind when it’s a rainy day. Me, my sister and mum like to make chocolate cake. After we put the batter in the oven the kitchen is always a mess. Spatulas are everywhere, flour on the floor and were all acting crazy. But I get used to it. (3) Since we don’t have board games I like to play games on my chromebook. I like going on online and playing math games because I like to beat my cousin’s high scores. (4) Reading is a thing I would do on a rainy day when I’m not in the mood to play games. I find it really relaxing and interesting. (5) Finally the best thing i like to do when it’s rainy day is sleep because why not?!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Let it Rain
Acid Rain
Image result for acid rain
Image Attribution
After rushing straight back inside the house from the unexpected acid rain storm we all sat down on our comfy couch, threw on some cozy blankets and just to listened to the acid rain pour down uncontrollably. We immediately locked shut all the windows so we can avoid the toxic liquid from coming into our house. All of a sudden we hear the drops slowly fading. Curious we were we started moving closer towards the front door. Everyone was nervous so I had to be the big person to open the door (poor me). Therefore I took one more step towards the door with everyone around me, I turned the doorknob and swung open the door lightly. First there was nothing, but then a heavy gust of wind flew past me before my eyes. Right after that we saw a huge fog surrounding our area and I could smell the toxic liquid scattering through the neighbourhood. Once the fog was cleared out we finally got to see everything clearly. It was not what we indicated. We saw piles of leaves everywhere, our basketball hoop was busted down and it was shivering cold out there. It was a total disaster!

The End
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the Day: Did you know that New Zealanders produce around 352 thousand tonnes of rubbish which goes to the landfill each year?

Task Description: Today is the final day for week three of summer learning journey! I am so excited to be moving onto the next week but first let me talk about our tasks today. For the first task we were asked to watch a video and list down three things that we learnt from it. The task was about things I like to do on a rainy day. Our task was to list five things we like to do when it is too wet to go outside. Finally for the last task we had to write a 8 - 10 sentence story about a acid rain storm. This was all the tasks for day five and week three of the summer learning journey. Remember to stay tuned for more posts! Bye for now.

SLJ ~ W3 D4 A1/2/3 Like A Scene Out Of A Movie

Hey viewers! Today I am going to be completing Week 3 day 4 of the summer learning journey. For this day I am focusing on the sky and today’s theme is Like a scene out of a movie. Let’s get started!

Week 3 Day 4 Like a scene out of a movie

Activity 1: The Southern Lights
Acrostic Poem

Here in this online sketchpad I have made a little poster of a acrostic poem. The word that I have made a poem about is LIGHTS. I found this task very easy because I really admire acrostic poems. I like it because it helps me build my creativity towards words and it’s fun. I hope you enjoy reading this little acrostic poem of mine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: The Seven Sisters
The Matariki Star Cluster

Summary:
A long time ago there was a handsome man name Mitau who lived with his seven good looking brothers all in one village called Maketu. Out of all the brothers, Mitai was the youngest amongst them and he lived with his grandpa who learned a lot of magic from which allows him to turn into different things like a bird so he can secretly listen to his brother's conversations or other crazy things. One day the brothers went hunting when they were entrance by alluring singing and curious as the boys were they decided to move their boat towards the sound where they ended up climbing to the top of a hill, and once they reached the top they found seven attracting women. Each of the lady’s caught the brothers attention with their luscious long hair and glowing skin which they fell all in love with except for Mitai. Mitai tried to warn his fellow brothers saying that woman like that will only bring danger and that they are fairy woman, but that did not stop them from wanting to marry these mysterious women. Ignoring Mitai the brothers proceed to take the woman back to make them their wives but ever since that day everything started getting weird as Mitai noticed the woman never left the house of the brothers and they were continuously demanded to do a variety of tasks for the ladies. Mitai had enough so he decided to visit his grandfather to tell him about this incident. After listening to a few stories from grandfather Mitai was definitely sure that these were definitely fairy women. The next morning Mitai hid behind a tree and was waiting as he tried to get a glimpse of the fairies. He waited for a long time that he almost was going to give up until he saw seven little birds all lined up in a branch getting ready to fly. Mitai was suspicious so he transformed into a bird and decided to follow them. Once the seven birds stopped they all of a sudden transformed into humans and to his surprise it was the fairies. As he was still a bird he listened to very carefully and heard that these women were planning a nasty plot to kill Mitai's poor brothers. Mitai quickly rushed back to his village to warn his brothers about the plot but they refused to listen until Mitai told them to look at one and another. They finally agreed and all asked what they should do and Mitai said that we should go to terawhara. When they got there terawhara gave them each a magic net they have woven and told them that once they see the women they could trap them with the magic net. He then told Mitai's brothers that they should cast their wives as far as they wanted them to be so they can be free from these women. The next day all 8 brothers hid waiting for there bird wives. As the birds were about to fly out of there house the men smuggled the birds into the magic net. Once they caught the women they immediately cried constantly begging there husbands to leave them. With a heavy heart, the boys all took their captive wives to Mitai who turned into a bird. Then Mitai took his brother wives and flew to the high heavens and handed them to the Maori god of the stars. There Mitai asked the god to take the fairy women far away. Like Mitai brothers the god started to fall in love with there beauty. The god set all the women far away from the earth and the heavens yet he allows the beautiful women in the sky a chance to shine.
(Sorry but it was pretty hard trying to fit the whole story into 6 - 8 sentences but this is all I have)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Crazy, Cool Clouds
A UFO or a tornado?

When I look at this image the first to things that come to my mind is a UFO because of the shape of the cloud. The second thing that comes to my mind is a tornado as the cloud forms a downwards spiral shape. From what I see it seems that the bottom of the cloud is way darker then the top as the top has the sun shining on and but at the same time it’s covering the luxurious houses from the sun. The houses below seem dark and dull as there seem to be no lights on and the cloud is covering their view from below. Since this cloud is in a un-familiar form and no other clouds are surrounding it might be trying show a sign to the people below that something might be coming or be aware. The smooth winter colour totally suit the cloud. The blue cool shades behind it make the cloud stand out more. This is one lonely cloud!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question Of The Day: Did you know that clouds are formed when small drops of water stick together? So it’s one big water drop!

Task Description: Today I have finally completed week three and day 4 of summer learning journey. The theme today was Like a scene out of a movie. It was a lot of work but I got through it! The first task was all about acrostic poems. We were asked to write an acrostic poem with the word lights and we got to be as creative as we can. For the second task we had to write a summary about a re-written story about the famous 7 Matariki Stars, and for the final task we had to write a description about clouds. We had three different pictures and our job was to choose one and write a description about the photo we chose. Well that’s all for today folks! I hope you enjoyed today’s activities and remember to stay tuned for more.

SLJ ~ W3 D3 A1/2/3 Taking Flight

Kia Ora blog viewers! Today is day three of summer learning journey for week 3! I hope you enjoy reading these three completed activities. Let’s Start!

Week 3 Day 3: Taking Flight

Activity 1: Bird Of The Year
The Kokako

KOKAKO:
Image result for kokako
Kokako, North Island by Matt Binns is licensed under - Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic

The Kokako make up two species of endangered forest birds that is endemic to New Zealand. Since this endemic bird are made up of two species they live in separate parts of Aotearoa. One is the North Island and the other that most people prefer it more endangered which is in the South Island. Right now the bird is in serious trouble due to its enemies such as cats, rats possums and stoats. But this never stopped the bird from proceeding to win Bird Of The Year with very close competition and a heated campaign. The Kokako mainly eat fruit and leaves but often they like eating buds, nectar, moss, flowers and invertebrates. Back in the past the Kokako used to be called the New Zealand Crow because if you look at is from a far distance it looks like it is a crow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Flying Foxes
Super Powers!

Everyone wishes that they could have a super power. I mean who doesn’t? If I to choose my number one superpower it would have to be super intelligence. Here in this online sketch pad I have talked about why I would choose to have super intelligence as my ultimate superpower. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3:  Wind Beneath My Wings
Flying Squid

ALL IMAGES IN THIS PRESENTATION ARE FREE AND DON’T NEED TO BE ATTRIBUTED

Many people think that only birds or bats can fly. They thought WRONG! Did you know that squirrels and fish can even fly?! Crazy right? Well I found some information about flying squids…..and yes they can fly too! Check out this presentation above that I have created about flying squids.
(this is making me kinda hungry right now….. Yes yes I like squid!)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question(s) of the Day: Did you know that most of New Zealand's native birds are endangered? If you were to help this problem in any way what would you do and why?

Task Description: Woah! It’s been a crazy day today. I just found out that fish can fly! Anyways today I have completed Week three day three of the summer learning journey. The theme today is Taking Flight as today we have learnt about things that fly. The first task was about picking any kind of New Zealand and then we write about it! I chose the Kokako. The next task was about superpowers! We were asked to choose any kind of superpower and then explain why we wanted this particular power. Finally for the last task we were instructed to write about animals that can fly. We had many different options but it came down to one final decision and I chose the flying squid. Well that is all for today viewers! I hope you enjoyed today’s post and remember to stay tuned for more. Bye for now!

SLJ ~ W3 D2 A1/2/3 The Air Up There

Hey blog viewers! Today I am going to continuing on with week three of the summer learning journey. Today’s theme is The Air Up There. I will be completing three full tasks about this theme and I hope you enjoy reading :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week 3 - Day 2: The Air Up There

Activity 1: Bee Informed
Fill in the Gaps

This task is basically facts about bumblebees. In this task I have filled the gaps of these sentences. Reminder: The blue colour represents the original sentence and the green represents the I have filled in.

Sentence one:  The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to hum, buzz or drone.
Sentence two: Bumblebees can fly very quickly.  They can reach ground speeds of fifty-four kilometres per hour (km/h).
Sentence three: Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to fifty percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.
Sentence four: Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to ninety times as much work as a normal honeybee.
Sentence five: The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the deposition of wild flowers and flowering trees, habitat lost, and extensive use of pesticides.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Carbon Sinks Don’t Stink!
What should I throw away?!!
Image result for throwing food into sink
Image Attribution

I had so many options in my head because I’m gonna say it I am a total picky eater. But I’d rather not list all of it down before my post will be a whole lot stuff that you do not want to listen to and you will be bored anyway. Well I like this food that almost the entire universe hates which is anchovies. I don’t know they just draw my attention and they are actually quite delicious. Soooooo yeahh! (Warning - Very Picky)

Oysters - Oyster don’t do me good at all! From the first time I tried oyster I puked! Yes I puked (and the entire church watched me puke!)… Well to be honest I always wanted to try it because it reminded me of muscles which I definitely love! My family are huge fans of oysters and they always eat it for dinner. It is really annoying now and if I had a carbon sink oysters are definitely the first ones to thrown away!

Pickles - Whenever we go and get Mcdonalds I always take my pickles off of my burger and give it to my sister because I’m sorry Mcdonalds but it ruins my burger. That slimey rotten taste just makes me want to faint when I even think about it because it’s so disgusting. When I see people taking a bite of a pickle from a jar it’s just so weird.  Sometimes I try to force myself to eat it so I can get over this habit but I can’t! It’s just too yuck.

Tomatoes - Tomatoes are not that bad but I just don’t like the taste at all. Tomatoes are like an everyday food that my family uses to cook. When I look at tomatoes from my view I think it is just like pickles but they are red. We even grow tomatoes in our backyard so we don’t need to buy it. Again it’s not bad but the taste doesn’t do me good so I think the tomatoes gotta go!

Beetroot - Beetroot is another one of my most disliked food. A lot of people like adding beetroot to their salads or sandwich but not in mine. When my mum takes it out of the can I can see the juice and it’s just so bad that I can’t even describe it. So beetroot is definitely going into the sink!

Capsicum - Capsicum is also one that my family grows in our backyard. We use a lot of capsicum for dinner when it comes to making raw fish. Capsicum is just really not the type of food that I like. The smell of it is so strong that it’s like heavy perfume! But the taste is way worse to me. It’s just so not pleasant at all. I know that I am going to be throwing capsicum away in my special sink!

Question: Let’s imagine that we tested the air in your classroom and found 7 different kinds of mould. Eek! The cleaner says that it takes 5 days for each mould to be eradicated (removed). If the school had to remove each mould one at a time, how long would it take to remove all the mould from the classroom?
What I know so far: The classroom found seven different kinds of mould in the air, Cleaner says that it will take five days to remove each mould.
Working Out:
Seven moulds - The class found out they had seven moulds up in the air
Five days - The cleaner said that it would take five days to eradicate each of the seven moulds
Seven moulds x five days = Thirty-five days ~ 7 x 5 = Thirty-five
Five days x Seven moulds = Thirty-five days ~ 5 x 7 = Thirty-five
5 x 6 = 30 + 5 = 35
7 x 4 = 28 + 7 = 35

Question Of The Day: Did you know that tomatoes are actually are fruit?!

Task Description: Today I have completed three tasks from the Summer Learning Journey Program. Today's theme is is the air up there. The first task was all about filling in the gaps of five sentences about bumblebees. The second task was focusing on carbon sinks. We were asked to talk about the foods that we dislike and wanted to dispose. For the final task we were given a maths problem to solve about yucky moulds. We also showed how we worked out the answers in our own words. This is all for today blog viewers. Thank you for checking out my blog posts and remember to stay tune for more!

SLJ ~ W3 D1 A1/2/3 A Heated Debate

Hey blog viewers! This is now the second to last week of the Summer Learning Journey 2018 - 2019. This week our main point is going to be about our beautiful sky because there are a lot of things we don’t know about the sky. Enjoy week three guys!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week 3: Up, Up and Away

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies
The best time to visit New Zealand!

New Zealand is a amazing place to visit. My favorite thing about it is that it’s a free country where everyone is happy and satisfied. If you are thinking about having a little trip to New Zealand that’s great! I recommend that you come in the middle of winter and spring. I chose this period of the season because it’s not too hot and no too cold I like to call this the goldilocks season. It’s also a good time to come to New Zealand because the hotel’s can get a little cheaper and even the tourist attraction!

Speaking of tourists attractions here are three places you should visit while in New Zealand!

One of my all time favourite tourist attraction is the soaring Sky Tower! This towering attraction is New Zealand’s tallest tower. It is located in Auckland city at the corner of Victoria and Federal streets. It is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world without any kind of support with a whopping height at 328 meters. This makes it the highest tower in the southern hemisphere. While your at it you should do some bungy jumping where you jump from the top of the sky tower! It’s really cool!

If you're looking for a place to relax head over to the Mission Bay Beach! This beach is one of our go-to beaches for everyone. If you got kids don’t worry! There is a park right next to the beach where they can have fun and enjoy. Adding on there is a fountain where you can actually swim in if your not willing to swim in the sea. The best thing about Mission Bay is that you can get a beautiful view of the Rangitoto volcano which is pretty cool.

The last place that you should definitely visit in New Zealand is the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial. (This is one of many tourists attractions!) You’re probably wondering who in the world is Michael Joseph Savage? Michael Savage was a former prime minister of NZ from 1935 to 1940. The funny thing was he was not even born in New Zealand but he was born in Australia. Anyways I think you should visit the memorial because it’s gardens are pleasing and there is a wishing well. It’s amazing!

Activity 2: You are my Sunshine
Keeping our skin safe!

When it hits summer everyone is outside having a fun time and playing games. Everyone is basically having a huge blast. Unfortunately a lot of people have had cases of skin cancer due to the lack of care to the skin. Here on the top is a little reminder of what we should be doing before we hit the road. I hope you read and remember these things when you want to got to the beach or anywhere fun and relaxing!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Burning up…
Bar Graphs

There are many scorching hot places in the world. Some of these temperatures can go really high! This is a Bar Graph I have drawn out about some very hot places in our world. It was really hard trying to get the lines all precise but I ended up doing a neat job. In the bar graph I have ranked the places from lowest to highest depending on there numbers. This is my final result!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the day: Did you know that 2018 was estimated the hottest year in the world? Crazy Right!!?

Task Description: Today I have moved onto the third week of Summer Learning Journey. This week I will be learning about the high skies since no one really talks about it. To start week three off the first task was all about the tourists. What we had to do is tell when is the best time to come and travel to New Zealand. We also had to include three places that we think they should visit during their time here. The second task was about keeping our skin safe from the sun. I was instructed to write five ways that we can do to stay safe in the sun. Finally for the last task I was given a set of numbers to put all into a graph. I decided to go with a bar graph since it was easy to do and read. I ranked the set of numbers that I got from the lowest to highest. This was all the things that I have learnt about so far. I hope that you learnt something from it or you enjoyed it. Thanks for viewing this post and remember to stay tune for more!

SLJ ~ W2 D5 A1/2/3 The Black Drain

SLJ ~ Day 5: Wasting Away

Activity 1: Off the menu
Is it fair to be charged upto $100 000 for overfishing?
Image result for fishing nz
Image Attribution
Personally, I think that this question is very interesting because there are a lot of pros and cons about this fishing situation. For me I think I am feeling a little in between about whether it’s fair or not. I think that I am feeling in between because from the articles I have read recently it’s no good to overfish because of the amount of fish they are taking is way to far. Adding onto that statement I learned that once there was way too much folks who caught too much fish in one area that they did not have enough fish for others! That is really sad. Now they have to start charging people if they are caught overfishing in a particular area. I think that what they should do is still keep those areas nice and clear but bring the fine down a little bit more or just make them pay for how much fish they took from the restricted area. Therefore I think that I’m am ok with what they are choosing to do but I’d rather go with my idea to fix this overfishing issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Black Train
Polluted Rivers!

There are many polluted rivers in our New Zealand area. Some of these problems are due to people either not choosing to look after our area or farmers who are not making the right choices. In this presentation I am talking about two polluted rivers in New Zealand. I’ve also talked about in this presentation is how far they are doing and if? What they are doing to help the river improve. It’s funny because half way through this task I realised that I have seen one of those rivers (The Ruamahanga River).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 3: Faded Glory
Save the Great Barrier Reef

  1. The first thing I would do to save the Great Barrier Reef is create a huge Great Barrier Reef theme water park. This will help people get to know more about the reef and why we need to keep it but in a fun and exciting way! The water park will fun and educational for kids and also a great water park for parents to relax and get to know more about the Great Barrier Reef. This will be great in New Zealand because it’s very hot and sunny nowadays. Finally all money will be collected and sent to the Australian Government.
  2. Secondly, Haunted houses have been really popular lately so I decided to create a Haunted Sea House. I know it sounds kinda weird but hear be out! The haunted house will be about a old man who used to study a lot about the reef but died from drowning. (This is all fake). This haunted house will be a easy $2 entry. By lowering the price it will help lure in the folks therefore we can fund raise more cash and send it to Aussie!
  3. Finally, the last thing I would do to help fund raise for the Great Barrier Reef is Skydiving. It’s not just going to be a random skydiving place it’s going to be next to the Great Barrier Reef. I selected this idea because when the visitors come to skydive they get a thrilling experience but not only that visitors get to have a beautiful view of the reef from high above. As always all the money can go to the Australian government to help this problem!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task Description: Today for SLJ the title is called The Black Drain. These activities were based on the sea and rivers. The first task was about overfishing. We were asked to share what we think if charging people for overfishing up to $100 000 is fair. The second task was about water based pollution. There are many polluted rivers in New Zealand that we have to take care of. For the task we had to find two polluted rivers in New Zealand then write about what they have been working on to fix the problem. The final task was about the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The reef is said to be slowly dying and the government are paying a lot to fix this problem. Our task was to write down three different ways that we can fund raise to help save the Great Barrier Reef. I hope you enjoyed today's tasks! Make sure to stay tune for more posts.

SLJ ~ W2 D4 A1/2/3 Spectacular, Spectacular

SLJ ~ Day 4: Spectacular, Spectacular

Activity 1: Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Would I go on a boat, walk or fly on a private helicopter?
Image result for milford sound
Image Attribution
Going on a private helicopter would be very amazing. You could get the best view from above! Walking would also be a great idea. Think about you get to discover many things in the mountains but, I think that I would enjoy riding in a boat. I think that I would be better off riding a boat in Milford Sound. Why? Well, I would like to experience how it feels like in Milford Sound in a lower view rather than above. Therefore I think that riding on a boat would be nice and relaxing. The best bit about it is that you get to have a beautiful close distance of the shiny waters. Another thing that I could get nice and close to is the high snow-capped mountains that surround the lake. If I were to ride one of the boats I would sniff in the beautiful fresh air all around Milford Sound.

Activity 3: Picture Perfect
What is happening in this photo?!

I'm so sorry but I do not have a image attribution for this photo because I got it from the SLJ. THIS IS NOT MY PHOTO
In this photo of a woman who is standing in the edge of what looks like a rooftop decides to take a selfie with the best view that surrounds behind her. From the look of it I think the woman is trying to figure out which side or angle is the best or she is trying to get good lighting. She looks like a tourist that stays in a friends home. She probably asked if she could climb onto the roof and take a photo. Looking at where she is standing it looks very dangerous because it looks like as if she going to fall back into the cool blue sea. The picture seems as if it has taken place in the beautiful city of Havana in Cuba. Why? Because houses are all in different fancy colours. This is why I think this lady decided to visit Havana. I think that in this perfect photo the woman is trying to convince in her selfie that she is falling. I think that what’s about to happen next won’t look really but I hope it’s no bad.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task Description: For today we were asked to do three activities. Today for Day 4 the theme is Spectacular, Spectacular. The first task was about a beautiful tourist attraction called Milford Sound. For the activity we were to imagine if we got to go to Milford Sound and do some exploring we were to decide whether we would walk, go on a private helicopter or ride a boat. The second activity was about a pool in Rotorua, New Zealand. There they have a pool where some people suggested to come up with a new name. I listed down five different names that would be suitable for the pool. The last activity was about describing. We were asked to choose between three different pictures and then talk about what’s happening in the photo. Well, that’s all for day 4 viewers! Be sure to leave a positive comment below and stay tuned for more posts!

SLJ W2 D3 A1/2/3 First You ‘Sea’ Me, Now You Don’t…

Week 2 Day 3: First You ‘Sea’ Me, Now You Don’t…

Are you a Night Owl or a Early Riser
For this task we were asked to talk about whether we are a Night Owl ~ Someone who wakes up late or a Early Riser ~ A person who wakes up nice and early in the morning. Once we said our opinion we then shared our siblings, parents and even grandparents opinion whether they wake up early or wake up late. This is a presentation about me and my family’s opinion.

SLJ W2 D2 A1/2/3 Fabulous Flora

Day 2: Fabulous Flora

Activity 1: Weaving A Tall Tail

Sharing my opinion towards flax weaving
Image result for flax weaving

I would definitely try flax weaving. I find flax weaving very interesting because it is a great and creative way to express art. Since it was originated by our beautiful cultures it’s really important to keep flax weaving alive as we do not want to forget our natural tradition. I did try flax weaving a couple of years ago but I did not end up creating something. Therefore I really want to try and at least create something like a bag just as a little souvenir. I also really want to try flax weaving the reason for that is my family is really into arts and crafts (especially my mother) so I want to share flax weaving with my whanau and help them master the art of weaving.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Mighty Mangroves

Who is strong and tough?

For this task we were asked to write about someone who we think is very strong and tough. I decided to take this question from a different perspective just to show that you do not have to have muscles to be a strong and tough person. I decided to choose the man himself Martin Luther King Jr because he defines a strong and tough person in a different way therefore its interesting.

Activity 3: Stranger than fiction
