SLJ ~ W4 D1 A1/2/3 Preserving the Past

Hey blog viewers! Today we are finally starting week four of the Summer Learning Journey. I can’t wait to learn a whole lot of new things this week and I am incredibly excited. The theme today is preserving the past. Lets dive through!

Week 4: Protect and Preserve
Day 1: Preserving the Past

Activity 1: World of Wearable (WOW) Art
What questions would I ask Dame Suzie Moncrieff?

Dame Suzie Moncrieff was the famous creator of a crazy competition called the World Of Wearable (WOW) Art. This competition has one main priority and it is recycled items. Many people from around the world take time making their jaw breaking creations using recycled items. Then they bring it to the competition to get judged. If I were invited to this years WOW awards and I got to interview Dame Suzie Moncrieff these are five questions I would ask her.

Activity 2: Guardians of the Sea
Is it real?!

After reviewing the video and reading the text I don’t believe that this mythical creature is true even though the video was really strange but, hear me out first. I’m not saying this in a way to attack the Maori culture I just want to let people know that I have my own opinion that I can express and other people do to. When I was watching the video and I saw the bubbles I thought to myself that I could be anything. Why? Well viewing the pictures of the taniwha it seems that is very big. Therefore if it actually was the taniwha we could’ve got an clear sighing of it because of how big the creature is. The second thing I want to look at is the text. Since it’s a myth it could be from thousands of years ago. That means they would’ve already been extinct so no one could ever actually see one in real life. Anyways this is how I feel about this taniwha situation with my backup information.

Traveling to Beijing

I’ve arrived in Beijing! My flight was very weezy.
I’m riding on the bus It stopped without a fus.
I stepped outside to endure the light But to my surprise it was dark as night.
Then smoke past by my face I coughed I must've had a taste.
I saw locals wearing surgical masks
Well I should’ve thought that when I what packing my stuff!
Oh how I already miss New Zealand!
But I see the hotel that I’m staying in.
I have a really bad vibe
Lets just make it a good time?!

Question of the Day: Did you know that people use recycle items to create gowns!

Task Description: Today I am finally starting day 1 of week 4 for the summer learning journey! I am really happy because I get to learn new things everyday. This is summary of what I have done. For the first task we got the chance to ask a famous women called Dame five questions. I asked her five questions based on her experience with what she is doing. The second task was about sharing our own opinion towards something. We were asked if we believe if the taniwha is a real creature. I answered this question by sharing my backup information to why I think what it is. Finally, the last task was about a poem. We were asked to write a poem about a trip to Beijing. Well that was all for today people. Thanks for visiting and always remember to stay tune for more posts.

  1. Hello Amelia,

Awesome start to Wk 4, Day 1. I really enjoyed the start of Wk 4's activities as they were very interesting and was described very well, so great work on that Amelia. My favourite activity would have to be activity 1 and 3, my reasons for this is because you have described your Beijing poem or trip surprisingly well. The reason why I like your first one is because you have got some really interesting and very good interview questions for Dame Suzie Moncrieff.

Overall great start to the final week, hope you can get them all done by the time we finish the programme. Loved your work Amelia, Keep it up and we know you can do it.

    Good Luck,
    Hinerangi

  2. Hi Amelia,

    Me again. :)

Well done on completing another days worth of activities!

You've come up with some really thoughtful questions for Dame Suzie Moncrieff. I'd be interested to know what her inspiration is as well. Have you been to a WOW show before? When I lived in Wellington (before I moved here to Auckland), I went to one of her shows and it was incredible! Definitely one of the best productions I've ever seen.

It's wonderful that you have strong opinions Amelia. The important thing is to be able to justify them and you've done just that! :) You make a really good argument for why you don't think taniwha exist and you could be right. I'm a little bit unsure myself. Did you know that 95% of our oceans haven't been explored yet? That means that there could be hundreds, or even thousands, of unknown creatures out there! The taniwha could be one of them. :)

I really enjoyed reading your poem about Beijing. I love clever little rhyming poems. :)
Do you think you'd like to visit Beijing one day? I'm in two minds about it (undecided). I'd love to go and experience a different culture but the amount of pollution really worries me.

    Blog ya later!

    Mikey :)
