WALT: identify components in a novel
Task Description: This week for reading we are taking a look at Static Images. A static image is a still image that combines visual elements and words. For this presentation talks about signs and symbols. Our task was to identify and give our meaning of what static image represents. We also picked a symbol that represents us, what a colour represents and what posters show. As always, we met on the mat and discussed this task before finishing it. Here is the final presentation!

π READING TSK ~ MeMe and Me π±
WALT: Evaluate the writer's purpose
Task Description: This week our book we are looking into is called MeMe and Me. It's part of a journal that I do not know the name of. As always, we read the book individually or with a partner. I read the book and tried to pick up as much information as I can. We then had to make a copy of this presentation and complete the following questions. I met on the mat with Waititi (my reading group) and discussed the book and shared a lot of information and personal perspectives. I then completed the three set of questions and went back and forth with the book to make sure my answers are accurate. This is the finishing presentation. There is still a create task to come.

π Anaconda Survival Features π ~ Create TSK π
WALT: Make connections between different texts
Task Description: This week for reading we are taking a break from mammals and looking at other types and species. This week Waititi is looking at anaconda's. If you saw my previous blog post then this will flow very well, if not then I recommend you to check that our first :). For this create task we had to list and talk about the survival features of an anaconda. Instead of using a presentation or a google draw I decided to take out my whiteboard and do it on there (sorry the only colour was red) I found this task very complicated but I managed half way through. This is my task done and dusted!
π Anaconda's π ~ Reading TSK π
WALT: Make connections between different texts
Task Description: This week for reading we have moved away from mammals but are still focused on animals around the rain forests. This animal is the Anacondaπ. For our task we had to read a variety of texts and videos all about the anaconda in order to get a thorough understanding of the species. We also met in our reading groups to share the facts and information we learned with each other. Then we were given this presentation to complete. This presentation consists of remembering all the things we learned this week about the anaconda along with a create task we were given which I will do a separate blog post for. Here is my finished presentation, I hope you enjoy as well as pick up some facts and information as you go :)

DE-EXTINCTIONπ¦ - READINGπ
WALT: Discuss and justify an opinion on a topic
Task Description: This week in Room 2's reading class (Miss Tapuke) We have been learning about De-extinction. What is De-extinction? De-extinction is where scientists bring back extinct animals from the past through complex methods. As you can see I have put the dinosaur on my tittle as a example of an animal that is seemingly known to be extinct. In order to complete this presentation we had to read through an article about de-extinction and the pros as well as the cons of bringing back animals. Do you have an opinion on whether we should bring these extinct animals back to life? Leave a comment and let me know because I am very interested in hearing what you think!

Reading // Review - Frozen Food ππ
WALT: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text
Title: Frozen Food
Written by: Philippa Werry
Fiction // Non-Fiction
This story called, Frozen Food, is all about the different foods in Scott Base (New Zealand's Base) in Antarctica. As you know the title is called Frozen Food therefore the story is talking about what type of food they eat, how to cook it and how the food is stored. Scott Base is known to house around 80 people over summer, but only 10 or 12 stay in winter. I learn't a lot of things in this story and I also learned about all the very strict rules when it actually comes to eating. Did you know that even though it's Antarctica, they still need to use fridges and freezers to store there food.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The reason for this, is that I am not familiar with books like this and reading it makes me more interested in learning more about it. I strongly think that the author of this story is trying to promote living in Antarctica and also deny the assumptions about it by giving an example of how they work with the food. I would recommend this text to all ages. Kids can get a good idea of what Antarctica is like and Adults can make the mature decision whether they actually want to move their.

On the Dinosaur Trail ~ INFO WEB POSTER π¦
WALT: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text
Task Description: For my final task, I was told to create a Information Web Poster. This is a poster that has information about something you have been focusing on. I did exactly the thing for this task. This week we are reading a new book called On the Dinosaur Trail. After reading the book and going over it I have picked up some facts from the book and I have established those facts into this poster above. I had four facts to share with everyone about the book and I found these facts very intersting! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and remember to stay tuned for more.
On the Dinosaur Trail ~ Review π¦
Walt: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text.
Tittle: On the Dinosaur Trail
Written By: Sue Gibbision
Genre: Non - Fiction (Real)
In this Non - Fiction story, there is a man named Dr Browne who has discovered a mystery footprint down in the Whanganui inlet, New Zealand. Dr Browne knew this was a footprint by an animal of somewhat. That was Dr Browne's mission! He questioned himself a lot and did a lot of reaserch on the mysterious print and ended with an answer; A Dinosaur?! Dr Browne was confident in his theorie and had back up information to prove it. But to expose his theorie to the world he had to go through what sciencetists call a "peer review". In this review the sciencetists agreed with Dr Browne's statement which allowed him to expose his theorie.
For someone like be who doesn't really like or learn much about dinosaurs, I quite liked this little book. I enjoyed reading the different facts in the book which encouraged me to learn more facts about dinosaurs. The bit that surprised me is that the footprint was found here in NZ π¦! I have never heard of any Dinosaur foot print findings in New Zealand. My favorite fact I learnt was that the the whole world used to be one continet and then split up and that New Zealand used to be called Zelandia.
After reading the text, I think that this book can be reccomend for students for Year 6 and up. I think this because the language would be more sutiable for the ages which will help them understand it more. This is also a good book because at this age children are starting to look at their future and what they want to be therefore, this book would be a great fit for those who are looking for a job of a sciencetists or a palentologists!

Task Description: Part of our tasks for this week is to write a review about the book called On the Dinosaur Trail that we have read and also have watched. For this task we had to write a review explaining what is going on in the book, what we enjoyed about it, a key message or a fact and who would we reccomend this book to. These were all required in the review. I enjoyed reading this book and I hope we dig in to more reaserch about dinosaurs.

The Grateful Crane - Retold By Amelia
WALT: make connections between a text, ourselves and the world
Task Description: If you have read the previous blog-post that you know about this folk tale. If not please read that in order for you to understand this. After completing the previous task the next one was to retell the story of the Grateful Crane in our own words. I find retelling stories hard because I always stick to one part of a story more than another and it just makes the story longer. That's why you it's very long! I used google drawing to re-write the story of the grateful crane. I hope you enjoy this task and reading the retold story the Japanese folk tale grateful crane.
The Grateful Crane - Reading
Walt: Interpret figurative language
Task Description: Today is Friday so I figured to do more finishing off work. This work is from a the first week and right now I am feeling happy to post this :) This weeks reading is based on a interesting Japanese folk tale. There were two versions of the tale one movie and one in text. After watching the video or reading the text we were then given this presentation to test our knowledge on this folk tale. I learnt a good message from this tale and I recommend it to a whole lot of people.

Lighthouse Blues ~ Literacy Task
WALT: We are learning to work collaboratively as we carry out various reading tasks
Today we finally had our first Literacy lesson with Mrs Tele'a. We got to read a very cool book called Lighthouse blues. We read the first two chapters of the book and then predict what's going to happen next on chapter three. This is my prediction but, I have not completed it.
My Prediction of the next chapter:
“Yea, I play the flute”, I said in a weird voice. “Is there any other instruments that you enjoy playing”, Stan says in a interested way. Out of nowhere I had flashback. I remembered last night when I was all cuddled up I heard the sound of a clarinet and saxophone. I was in total shock. Everything was starting to make sense. Stan was still waiting for an answer and things were starting to get really weird. Suddenly a massive gust of wind flew right past our shivering cold feet. It was so hard that I almost lost my balance.

Task Description: Today for our first literacy lesson we got a chance to read an interesting book called Lighthouse Blues. First we all sat on the mat we read the first two chapters of the story. After reading it our task was to go away and write what we think is going to happen in the next chapter. We then shared our storied with people around us and also gave feedback. This is my take on the next chapter. Enjoy!
