🀷 What Makes An Effective Leader? πŸ“

WALT: Identify and use features of explanation writing.
What makes an effective leader?
Leader, also known in other words the captain or the chief. The leader is someone who leads, directs a group or organisation. In my opinion, I think that the role of a leader is very important and it’s a role that you should be effective in. But how do you become an effective leader? Explore with me these three points on what makes an effective leader!

Being dependable is a very important sequence of being an effective leader. The majority of being dependable is expecting the unexpected. Expecting the unexpected includes thinking quick on your feet. This means, if you are told to explain something to other people, you should be able to improvise quick on your feet and ready for anything coming your way. This is hard work and it takes time for you to get use to it, but it definitely showcases how much of an effective leader you are.

To add on, Being a role model is a main key that makes you an effective leader. A role model is someone who creates a positive effect that people acknowledge and put into practice. Meaning, doing the right thing is almost compulsory because you never know who’s watching! If you create a positive effect it reflects on you, your role and your peers. Mistakes can also be part of being a leader, but it's good! Because you learn from them and you can share your lessons with your peers.

Lastly, a passionate person, someone who enjoys what their doing and spreads an optimistic vibe certainly makes an effective leader. Imagine if you were the opposite of a passionate leader. “Oh, being a leader is boring!” or “Oi, this sucks I wish I never did this.” If these things spread around your surroundings, it will put people down and look at being a leader from a low perspective. Whereas, if always be a passionate leader you will receive great response and become an inspiration.

An effective leader can be identified in many ways and definitions. Personally, I believe that being dependable, always a role model and being very passionate can strongly define an effective leader. Don’t agree with me? Try it, you will be awesome!

Task Description: Were back at school and it's our final term of the year! We have tests coming up early next week, therefore we are focusing on our main topic which is Explanation Writing - Explaining a point. In Room 2 Literacy we decided to do an explanation writing on What makes an effective leader. As always, we sat on the mat and discussed the topic and shared our ideas. Its a very easy one because amongst the class are a few school wide leaders. To extend our learning we looked at a few videos about what makes an effective leader and the explanation writing layout. I hope you picked up something from this piece of writing of writing, and remember if you have any feedback just comment below :) Thanks, Amelia.

Explanation Writing ~ Where would you put your brand new TV… The Lounge or Bedroom?

WALT: We are learning to write using all parts of the 'Explanation Model' TIIC and SEE
What would you choose?

Where would you put your brand new TV… The Lounge or Bedroom?
Ahhhhh….Nothing is better than just chilling out and watching some good television shows. Of course the lounge is the best place to put your TV! Some people would like it better watching TV in their bedroom but I’d prefer to watch it in the lounge. This is something that many people go on and on about. That’s why I’m going to be telling you different reasons why it’s better to put your TV in the lounge.

Placing your TV in the lounge is the best way to get together as a family and watch some great movies together. I find this very good because families all get a chance to sit together and have some family time. This is way better than being all squashed up in one room or even watching a movie all by yourself. Besides I’d rather watch a scary movie with my siblings or parents than getting a heart attack in my own room by myself!

In every movie we watch there always has to be delicious snacks/food to make the time more enjoyable. I mean, I can’t even survive a movie without having at least something to eat. Eating can sometimes be a huge mess during a movie and everything just goes wild. I think that it’s better to put your TV in the lounge because you can have great snacks and not worry about cleaning much hence you’re in a open area. It’s much better than cleaning your own bed full of food which is what everyone dreads!

Some people think that because your TV is in the lounge your won’t be as comfortable there than on a bed. Well, HELLO we have couch’s for a reason! What I’m trying to say is that we can also turn our couch’s into comfortable beds and make it just as good as your own bed. Don’t worry about the everyone fitting because it is a big space for the fam to enjoy.

Anyways, Those are my three reasons about why it’s better to place a TV in the lounge rather than your bedroom. Family time, lot’s of snacks/foods and comfortable space are what I’m talking about in a movie in the lounge. What would you choose?

Task Description: For this weeks Literacy (writing) task we are focusing on parts of the 'Explanation Model'. As you you probably already know those are T.I.I.C and S.E.E. These help us know what were going to be writing and also it can help it make more sense. The writing is called Lounge or Bedroom. Mrs Tele'a has brought a brand new TV and she doesn't know whether to place it in her Lounge or Bedroom. It is our job to help explain to her which place would be the best fit following with three different reasons. I chose the Lounge followed by three reasons. This is my finishing work.

Explanation Writing ~ My favourite things to do at Pt England School!

WALT: We are reviewing what we wrote in our writing test last week - how well did we do?
This image is owned/taken by the school and edited by myself.

My favourite things to do at PES (Pt England School)!

Kids find it boring working on paper and pencil for school. It just goes to show that learning is just boring. Well not here at Pt England School! Why? Because we are Digital Learners! Yup...Digital learners. It’s one of my favourite things about Pt England because learning is made to be fun and not just fun but fun online as well. I find it enjoyable because we work on chromebooks for almost every subject. Sometimes we even get to take our chromebooks home and finish off learning there which is absolutely awesome!

Judging from my past 8 full years at this school another one of my ultimate favourite things are our fun camp events! Camping is not always a normal part of what kids do at school and that’s why I favour it. One of my best camp experience was held at our own school field! This was the Year 5 and 6 camp that is held every year for the school kids. It was a really fun event therefore we had a whole lot of fun activities, amazing fresh cooked food and a camp concert to wrap things up! It was a really fun experience and I hope to have more opportunities like this.

You’ve already heard about two of my favourite things to do at school by now which is our digital learning and fun camps but, there's one more I will explaining to you. One of my most favourite things to do at school is definitely morning tea/lunch time. I find this as a very exciting part of the day more than others….why? Well, I like to take morning tea/lunch as a time to let loose from all the learning that has been happening. I love having fun outside in the sun and playing different sports games with friends.

Our digital learning, fun camp events and break time are just three out of many things that I favour at school! I love to make the most of these things because it’s my last year at this school. Anyways you’ve heard about my favourite things to do at school….what’s your’s??

Task Description: For this writing task we are focusing on explanation writing. Our literacy teacher (Mrs Tele'a) created a template on google docs in order to create a guide for us in our writing. We were given a title and we had to elaborate on it. I wrote about my favourite things to do at Pt England School. Using my past experience within this school I chose three of my favourite things I enjoy doing their and this was the outcome.

What does it mean to be a good role model?

What does it mean to be a good role model?

This is a picture of Martin Luther King Jr whom I think was a great role model back in his days.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone always wants to have a positive impact on younger generations through speech and actions. We like to call these people role models. Role models can be anyone like a Mother to her daughter or a Father to his sons. But, what does it mean to be a good one? Well, today I am going to be listing down three different reasons for what it means to be a good role model.

~ Confidence ~

When we're looking at the word role model a whole lot of things come to mind. One of these things is confidence. This word is the main thing that people look at when it comes to a role model. Confidence is a good way of embracing yourself and others in a good way. People want to be looking up to someone who is positive in everything and everyone, trustworthy and gives everything a try no matter what. No one wants to see the opposite of that which is someone down, shy or likes to stay back behind someone's shadow. Therefore confidence is an excellent way to identify a role model.

~ Respect ~

Respect is what some people expect of a good role model, and it’s true! Being respectful is a really important part of a role model. When you do this act you are clearly showing people that you can be polite or courteous. You show respect to others by listening and paying attention to what they are saying and not talking over there voices and making eye contact with someone else. Another way you could be respectful is by looking after vulnerable things that are for others and not putting your hands all over it and playing with it. These things are really simple and easy to get so always remember to show/be respectful.

~ Kindness ~

Being kind is just one of the most simple things you can do as a role model. Showing kindness through speech and actions can lead to many great things. You want to show people that you do care for them and that you are nice and friendly. Kindness as a role model doesn’t mean saying bad things to a person or bringing them down which is not very nice. It’s better to be uplifting and delightful to others. This is why I think kindness is a good way to showcase a good role model.

These are just a three easy but simple meanings of a good role model. Anyone can be a good role model. Even if you think you can’t reach the level of a role model pay attention to the three main points I have listed Confidence, Respect and Kindness and you will see a huge improvement in yourself and others. Overall these are what I think creates a special meaning of a good role model and I hope you enjoyed reading it!

Task Description: This is my first writing task for 2019. I'm in Room 3 Mrs Tele'a's literacy class, I'm in a literacy class called Mewburn and it's so far so good! For this weeks writing task we were focusing on explanation writing. Explanation is a type of writing form where we explain about something like a question. Our topic was about good role models. The question was what does it mean to be a Good Role Model? We had to write in the format of T.I.I.C which is Title, Introduction, Information and Conclusion. This is what I have written. Enjoy!

How to be prepared for Cross Country
By Amelia

Have you ever participated in a school Cross Country run before? Most people dread Cross Country runs because of the lack of preparation or they just don't put enough effort into it. Luckily I am here to help! Here a few ways that can help you prepare for cross country.

One way that you can prepare for cross country is by having a healthy diet. When preparing for a cross-country you always need to be aware of what you are eating. Having simple things like fruits and drinking lots of water is really helpful. For example, eating a banana helps boosts your energy level before you run. It also gives you a healthy dose of potassium which is important for long-distance runs like cross country. Whereas, if you eat a lot from fast food restaurants you won’t have a lot of strength to run the course. That’s why I personally think that having a healthy diet can help you prepare for the cross country and enhance your running performance.

You can also prepare for cross country by getting familiar with the course. You need to realize that cross country is way longer than you think. Most people prepare for cross country by running a shorter distance than the actual track. However, when it comes to the day you get halfway through the track you start to feel insecure about the way that you are running. This is why it's good to get familiar with the track. Even by walking the course can help you get a good taste of how it’s going to be. I believe that by doing this it can help you feel comfortable and ready to go.

Preparing for cross country involves a lot of physical preparation. This means that you could start by doing some good training to help strengthen things like your muscles and also to get your heart pumping. Believe it or not, you can do some training anywhere you want whenever you want! You could probably jog up and down your pathway or you can relax your muscles by doing some stretches or yoga. Did you know that doing simple things like walking or even running around your house until you get tired can help reduce a positive effect on your running performance?

Physically preparing for cross country is good but we also have to mentally prepare for cross country. Mentally preparing means giving it the best you got and saying positive things like “I can do it” or “This will be awesome!”. If you can’t take cross country at all and you just want to give just fake it till you make. This means if your planning to give up or your just too lazy to try just put a smile on your face and try it anyways! I guarantee if you keep doing this it can help you transition from the bad side of it to the positive side.

These are my 4 effective tips on how to prepare for cross country. Always remember to stay healthy, be positive and train hard. I hope that this will help you out if you are aiming to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the cross country. Who knows? You might come first!

Task Description: Last term the whole school participated in a School Cross Country. Some placed and some didn't. Our task was to write to a year 4 student on how to be well prepared for cross country. We did a lot of research on different ways that we could prepare and some of us used our own advice from our own experience. I hope you enjoyed this piece of writing and that you find it very helpful!

How Can We Save Money?

Walt: Use Connectives in our explanations.

How Can We Save Money?

Money’s everywhere! People use it to travel, buy things and sometimes donate to the poor or charity. But everyone has struggled with it. I believe that everyone should start saving up money for there future and that starts with you. Yes you! I am going to be explaining to you 3 different ways on how we can save our money for good so keep reading!

One way you can save money is by Sticking to a budget. Everyday people are spending there money no matter how big it costs. Sometimes you just need to stick an budget! When I say budget I mean a good budget like around $20 or $25. Sticking to a tight budget can help the big spenders save their money and can help them buy more useful stuff besides things that they want. Well your sticking to a budget be thoughtful with what you want because you might have 60 pairs of expensive shoes and you can’t afford lunch for your family!

Another way of saving money is Buying what you need not what you want! This one is important because it’s one of the best ways you can save up! Sometimes buying the things we want is not really useful then the things we need. No one really needs stuff like jewelry, Tv’s, Phone or stuff that is trending. I believe that people should use their money wisely and  stop buying stuff that are what you want unless what you want is useful. It’s up to you if you buy what you want. I’m not forcing you to but it’s a good way.

The last way to save money is by using a piggy bank. This is one of my favourite ways! Using a piggy bank is also very helpful just like the other idea’s. Is very easy to do but sometimes hard. Why you think? People don’t just put money straight into there piggy bank. Sometimes they want to spend it on lollies or drinks or something else. See It’s kind of hard! If you keep putting money the money you get in you piggy bank it will increase faster. Using a piggy bank really helps because you can save it for the future and and other important things.

Well you’ve seen my three idea’s. When you Stick to a budget, Buy what need and use a piggy bank you will feel comfortable with money and not have any problems with paying bills and food. Don’t go overboard and become a cheapskate!! Don’t spend your money everyday! It’s just the little thing you have to think about with your money. Question yourself Is the thing your buying useful? Do you really need it? I hope this will help you when you if you want to save money. Remember be Smart with your money!

Task Description: Since testing is coming up we had to do a practice explanation writing. if you don't know what explanation writing is it's just explaining a topic or a question in a writing form. We had to know the order and structure of an explanation writing in order to get it right. I found this task quite easy because I already had lot's of idea's in my head. We had to use connectives to make our writing flow well and not get mucked up!
