Greta Thunberg - Biography ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŒŽ

Image result for greta thunberg
Here is Greta Thunberg on a strike for Climate Change!

Greta Thunberg

Climate Change has been affecting many kinds of things these days. The adults are giving up and not waking up and doing something about it. This is where children around the world like Greta Thunberg step in!

Well, who is Greta Thungberg you may ask? Greta Tintin Eleonora Thunberg is a 16 Year Old young Swedish girl. Greta is known for being a young activist campaigning for Climate Change. Greta became well known at the age of 15, when she sat outside of the Swedish Parliament and protested about immediate actions towards climate change. Since then, this teen became an outspoken activist towards global warming.

Greta Thunberg is a young teen who has touched everyone from the news to different articles. Her actions have put adults through a little shame and a wake up call for many people world-wide! This teen has been very committed to being a climate activist as her and a whole bunch of pupils miss out on their own learning to go on school strikes to make a change. Greta has been interviewed a lot during the school strikes, visited climate conferences where she shares her opinions and has even met President Obama!

Everyone can learn many things about this young teen. As Greta has shown, even at a young age you can start stepping up for what’s right! In order to do something like this, you've got to have the courage and be brave just like Greta, even though she was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, OCD and Selective Mutism, which means she can only speak when things are necessary. That must be really hard to go through! That’s why we can learn many things from Greta Thunberg. What an awesome example!
Task Description: This week for writing, Room 2 literacy has been focusing on a very different type of writing style. This style is Biography. First, Miss Tapuke got us to share our opinions on what we think is Biography. Some of us had no idea and others had a clear understanding. After uncovering what Biography is, we made a grapic organiser to brain storm about the person we are talking about. Which led to this biography about Greta Thunberg. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this Biography!

Empanadas ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท

Room 4 has been a really lucky class! Today, we got to eat delicious empanadas! Empanadas are known to be a traditional dish to the amazing country Argentina. Inside this spicy dish is spicy paprika, mild spice (so we don't cry our eyes out!) Our teacher also added capsicum, mince, onion and spice. Therefore it's a puff pastry filled with meat and vegetables!

The Smell and Look: The pastry looks golden brown on the outer side and the middle part is cooked just right. The meat looks dark brown with a hint of bright red capsicum. The rest are buried under the meat. It smells like a sausage roll from the bakery with a hint of spice and sweetness!

The Taste: The pastry taste very plain but a good plain. The sweetness kind of over powered the spiciness but it taste very nice. The meat taste awesome and the vegetables are a good addition to the meat and it's like a burst of flavour in your mouth!

๐ŸŒŽ South America ๐ŸŒŽ

Task Description: This week the continent we have focused on is South America. To further our understanding about this continent, we looked at some videos looking into particular country's inside the continent and also listen to what other kids in our class have to say about the continent. After that, we all went and picked a country and did our own research of a particular country. I hope you enjoy!

๐ŸŒ Europe & America ๐ŸŒ

Walt: Learn the difference and similarities between two continents (country).

Europe and America have many similarities because way back Europe colonised North America. During this time Europe brought over a lot of things such as their culture, foods and traditions. Even though colonisation doesn't happen between them now, these two country's still do a lot of trading. Let's look at food for an example, Pizza originated in Italy located in Europe. America took pizza and made it and improvised the different flavours. In Italy they made their pizzas more traditional and hand made whereas America makes lots of  bulk Pizza from companies like Dominoes. There are many more things about these two countries so I will share them soon!

Silver Corned Beef Soup // Tech Cooking - Cooking with Miss Tuipulotu ๐Ÿณ

Silver Corned Beef // Tech Cooking - Cooking with Miss Tuipulotu ๐Ÿณ

Today, we had tech at Tamaki College. Each term we have different technology classes and this term we have cooking. In our cooking class our teacher is Miss Tuipulotu. Today we got a chance to make a Silver Side Corn Beef Soup! My amazing partner for cooking is Naomi and together we made this dish.

Once we got to class we put all our bags away, grab our aprons and wash our hands. Miss Tuipulotu always likes to leave the instructions on the bored for us but she is still there to clarify the instructions and also help us if were lost (that's me). At the same time during our cooking we had to clean up all our dishes. Me and Naomi took turns washing and drying.

Ingredients//Items for Cooking:

  • Silver Corned Beef
  • Cabbage
  • Potato
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Tomato
  • Broccoli
  • 2 cups of water
  • Soup Mix
  • Pot or Pan
Put two cups of water into your pot or pan. Put it at a high heat. After chopping your all your ingredients slowly add it into your pot or pan while at high heat. Once you have added your vegetables and meat, leave it all in there to cook
nice and smoothly. Once it's halfway cooked (you'll known when potato's are starting to get softer) add your soup mix to the pot or pan. After that leave it in there to cook. If you want to speed up the process crank the heat. Add any desired flavour to your soup and there you go!

I hope you enjoyed this little post and I will do more like this ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Food Tasting! ๐Ÿฅ™๐Ÿ—ผ

Part of our topic for this term is learning about different continents. Today we were very lucky to learn and also taste food from the Mediterranean and France. But, of course their is a whole lot of learning that comes with this. So, before we did our food tasting we watched little videos about it. For the Mediterranean food we ate Brochette, with a touch of olive oil on top! Two black olives and a little block of feta cheese.

I have never tried olives before so I was excited, but at the same time nervous. We all smelt the olives and we all agreed it smelled like wine! (not that we drink wine!) Since me and my friends were nervous, we counted 3, 2, 1 and took a bite of the olive. After taking a bite, me and my friends arranged disgusted looks than went crazy! It tasted bitter and the after taste made it even worse. Therefore, in my opinion I do not like olives. The Brochette was a very good recovery after eating the olives. I loved the texture of it and the olive oil added to it made it even better! I added the feta cheese as an butter to the brochette and it was an amazing combination. The feta cheese was very minty but overall a delicious delight of cheese.

As our dessert we moved to the beautiful country of France! I was especially excited for this one because we had Pan au chocolat. This basically just translated to bread with chocolate. Mrs stone gave us all each a plate to share between the our group. After, taking a bite it felt really good to end on a good note. The croissant was very yum and the chocolate made it even yummier! This was an awesome experience and I would definitely do something like this again!

Reading // Review - Frozen Food ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ‡

WALT: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text

Title: Frozen Food
Written by: Philippa Werry
Fiction // Non-Fiction

This story called, Frozen Food, is all about the different foods in Scott Base (New Zealand's Base) in Antarctica. As you know the title is called Frozen Food therefore the story is talking about what type of food they eat, how to cook it and how the food is stored. Scott Base is known to house around 80 people over summer, but only 10 or 12 stay in winter. I learn't a lot of things in this story and I also learned about all the very strict rules when it actually comes to eating. Did you know that even though it's Antarctica, they still need to use fridges and freezers to store there food.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The reason for this, is that I am not familiar with books like this and reading it makes me more interested in learning more about it. I strongly think that the author of this story is trying to promote living in Antarctica and also deny the assumptions about it by giving an example of how they work with the food. I would recommend this text to all ages. Kids can get a good idea of what Antarctica is like and Adults can make the mature decision whether they actually want to move their.

English Breakfast! Tech Cooking - Miss Tuipulotu ๐Ÿ˜Š

Me and Naomi :)
Hello! Welcome to another blog post from yours truely! Today, we have finally moved technology groups and my group is now in cooking class. In our cooking class our teacher is Miss Tuipulotu. Today we got a chance to make a yummy English Breakfast. My partner for cooking was Naomi.
Our finishing dish!
When we got into the class, we all put our bags away, put our aprons on and set up our cooking stations. After that Miss Tuipulotu gave us instructions on the the first steps and she'll be directing us more as we go. For our english breakfast, we made pre-cooked sausages, toasts with butter, crisp bacon, baked beans and scrambled eggs. Me and Naomi took turns cooking with the pan and I think we came to the conclusion that we are not really the best chefs!

Anyways, I thought I had a awesome time in cooking. Next time I would like to make a dessert of some kind because it's what I'm craving right now!
