WALT: condense and paraphrase key ideas in a text

Title: Frozen Food

This story called, Frozen Food, is all about the different foods in Scott Base (New Zealand's Base) in Antarctica. As you know the title is called Frozen Food therefore the story is talking about what type of food they eat, how to cook it and how the food is stored. Scott Base is known to house around 80 people over summer, but only 10 or 12 stay in winter. I learn't a lot of things in this story and I also learned about all the very strict rules when it actually comes to eating. Did you know that even though it's Antarctica, they still need to use fridges and freezers to store there food. 

I really enjoyed reading this book. The reason for this, is that I am not familiar with books like this and reading it makes me more interested in learning more about it. I strongly think that the author of this story is trying to promote living in Antarctica and also deny the assumptions about it by giving an example of how they work with the food. I would recommend this text to all ages. Kids can get a good idea of what Antarctica is like and Adults can make the mature decision whether they actually want to move their.

Reading Task - Battle Review

WALT:  make connections between a text, ourselves and the world

Today I am writing a review about our reading text for this week which is called Battle. This story is written Maria Samuela and is a fiction type of story. So, in the story their are a few main characters but the one who was mostly involved in the story is a boy named Timiona.

In the story I would describe Timiona as a really shy boy but overcame that fear throughout the story. I think this because in the story him and a couple of friends held a dance competition. In the competition there was one absolutely great dancer named Moera (a girl). She was winning the dance comp so far. Timiona was really scared because he took a really special medal earned by his Papa Ari that his mother strictly forbid anyone from taking that from the house. Timiona thought that taking the medal would give him good luck for the competition. Timiona had became a whole lot more nervous when he realised that it was gone. Poor Timiona :(

Fast forward, Timiona's name had been called to compete against the talented Lucy who was dominating the competition so far. Timiona was getting even more nervous but he tried to push that though away when remembering all his hard work and practice he has put into this competition and kind of felt a little bit better after that. Timiona then began busting moves like nothing and had the crowd going crazy. Though it was clear who won the battle but he walked home very sad because he still couldn't find the medal and knew what's coming. Once he got home he saw his mother holding a Papa Ari's medal with her head cocked to one side.

Sadly, The story ended there but it seemed like Timiona was going to get into some trouble! I think that the writer tried to send a life lesson to some kids about listening because even though Timiona won he never knew what was in store for his actions. After reading the book I thought exactly like this and I am going to put this into practice. I think that this is a great book for years 6 to 8 because it's very cool and also sends a great message to these age groups. Overall this was a great book and I would read it again!

Reading Task - Battle

Task Description: This week I have finally finished my reading task. There are still more tasks to go elaborating about this story Battle that I have read. Now our task for this week was to read the text we were given which was called Battle. After reading the text using the knowledge I got from the text I answered all the questions in the presentation. I found them really interesting and fun. This is the finish product.

Lighthouse Blues ~ Literacy Task

WALT: We are learning to work collaboratively as we carry out various reading tasks

Today we finally had our first Literacy lesson with Mrs Tele'a. We got to read a very cool book called Lighthouse blues. We read the first two chapters of the book and then predict what's going to happen next on chapter three. This is my prediction but, I have not completed it.

My Prediction of the next chapter:

“Yea, I play the flute”, I said in a weird voice. “Is there any other instruments that you enjoy playing”, Stan says in a interested way. Out of nowhere I had flashback. I remembered last night when I was all cuddled up I heard the sound of a clarinet and saxophone. I was in total shock. Everything was starting to make sense. Stan was still waiting for an answer and things were starting to get really weird. Suddenly a massive gust of wind flew right past our shivering cold feet. It was so hard that I almost lost my balance.

Task Description: Today for our first literacy lesson we got a chance to read an interesting book called Lighthouse Blues. First we all sat on the mat we read the first two chapters of the story. After reading it our task was to go away and write what we think is going to happen in the next chapter. We then shared our storied with people around us and also gave feedback. This is my take on the next chapter. Enjoy!

The Mars One Project!

Task Description: Today for Reading we are finishing off work from last week. Our focus was on the Mars One Project. Here is a presentation about the Mars One Project. We had to read three articles about the project to help us with our presentation. I found out lot's of information like about What astronauts will do on Mars and Who will go to Mars! We also decorated the slide so it's not just a boring grey look. I added images that are related to the Mars One Project and attributed it unless I made the image. This is my Mars One Project Presentation.

How to remember the Planets in the Solar System!

Task Description: This week Room 7 Literacy had to make a little rhyme that will help you remember the order of the 8 planets in the solar system. This week we are focusing on Pluto that used to be a planet but now scientists discovered that it was not a planet. So some people can say,"Well it's a planet in my heart"! Well you have to get used to Pluto not being a planet. Anyways I used google to help me find some words. Since Pluto ain't a planet anymore it was kind of hard finding the words but I managed and came up with My Very Educated Mother Just served us Nougat, and if you can see the first letter of each word has the first letters of each planet. For Example: My Very stand for Mercury and Venus. I then added a photo of the solar system without Pluto. I hope this helps you remember each planet in the solar system. Stay tuned for my next post

Task Description: Hello Viewers. This activity is kind of like an advice blog you might have seen recently. Anyways I had to answer questions from a alien Gorgon. He wants to know which is a good place to grow crops, which is a save planet to hide a massive spaceship and how long does it take us to orbit around the sun. I found all of this information from two reading and wrote down what I read. I also used images using explore. You will know what explore is in my latest 

Solar System!

Task Description: Today Room 7 Literacy had to complete a activity about the Solar System. This is my finish look. To start off We had to find images on Explore. Explore is just like Google but when you have an drive there's presentations, Docs and Google draw. At the top of each subject it should say tools then when you click it, it is let's you type up what you want. Anyways going back to the images we had to place all the planets in order starting from the Sun all the way to Neptune. This is not the real size of what the planet is but I tried my best. I then added all the names of the planets just to show you guys the name of each one! I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for my next blog-post.

Double Chocolate Delight!

Double Chocolate Delight

I’m going to do chores at home everyday in the hope that my mum will buy me this chocolate!

This is a chocolate made by Cadbury! It’s name is top deck. It is white chocolate on the top and milk chocolate on the bottom. That looks yummy!

At first I thought this was going to be disgusting! As I held the chocolate I already knew what the flavour was going to be, or did I? It had a pointy edge but had a smooth top and bottom. All of a sudden I had mixed thoughts. It smelt like white chocolate all up when I think it was going to be Jelly tip. Then for the finale I took a little bite out of it! Wow my thoughts on it was twisted! It turned out to be white chocolate after all! YUMMY!

I think this chocolate should have the to colours switched sides because I think it would be more appealing. I also think that they should put a little taste of dark chocolate in between the the two flavours so it would be more delicious!

I think this is a 5 star product! I would recommend the product for other people. I think people would love this chocolate because it taste delicious with the two chocolates together!  

Task Description: This is just work that was overdue and I have been told to finish it off! So weeks ago we did chocolate taste testing! We were given each a number and we got to eat a flavoured chocolate. We then had to write down how it felt how it looked and how it TASTED! We then had to write a story about the chocolate I had eaten and give it a tittle that grabs attention!

Little red riding wolf - (Retold by Amelia)

Walt: retell a story with a significant twist

Once in a far away mysterious land  there lived a wolf who loved his grandma wolf. The little wolf's name was little good riding wolf who wore a red sparkly soft cape. One day momma wolf said to little good riding,”Please take some meat to wise old granny wolf because she is sick”.”OK”, said little good riding wolf. Mummy wolf said,”Remember not to talk to strangers and do not pick flowers. So little good riding wolf went off!.

little good riding wolf was walking, walking and walking until she smelled the the lovely sight of flowers she said to herself,”I might pick some flowers for wise old granny”. But what she did not know is there was a Big bad little girl was stalking little good riding wolf. After little good riding wolf finished picking the flowers. Wooosh Just then Big bad little girl appears. Little good riding wolf was frightened,”Oh No”said Little good riding wolf. Big bad little girl said,”Where are you going”. Little good riding wolf said,”I’m going to my wonderful granny”. Big bad little girl said,”Where is her house”. Little good riding wolf said,”Just right there”. So Big bad little girl ran to Little good riding wolf's house as fast as he can.

Just then Big bad little girl got to granny’s house. Big bad little girl knocked on the door and said in a delightful voice, “grandma” I’m here. Granny said,”OH come in come in come in”. Just the Big bad little girl broke through the door and ate granny all up poor granny! The after he ate granny all up she decided to wear granny clothing. She wore her high heels, Dress and glasses. After that he went inside granny's bed and cuddled up.

After a few seconds Little good riding wolf knocked on the door and said,”Granny I’m here”. Big bad little girl said in a delightful voice again,”Oh come in”. As Little good riding wolf walked into the house he said,”What what what big eyes you have”. Big bad little girl said,”The better to see you”. Little good riding wolf said,”What big claws you have?”. “The better to cut people”, said big bad little girl. At the bit it started to get scary and scary. Little good riding wolf said,”What sharp teeth you have”. “The better to eat you all up”, said Big bad little girl. Just the he jumped out of the bed and started to chase Little good riding wolf. Just then a man who was chopping trees down saw the victim. Then he sprang into action and took some of his chopped wood and sliced the big bad little girl. She fell into piles of wood and spewed out granny. Then they gave grandma some tea and they threw big bad little girl into the wood. After that they lived happily ever after.

Task Description: This is the story of little red riding wolf with a twist. As you can see we have twisted the story to make it more interesting. We started of with planing on what we are going to do and here it is. Hope you enjoy it! 

  

Three little pig's ( Retold by Amelia )

Little pig Little pig let me in, said big bad wolf.             

Once there was 3 little pigs that lived with their mum. One day the 3 little pigs had to leave their mum’s house to give her some time to work. Mum said, “Don't forget to watch out from the Big Bad Wolf. They said their goodbyes and went off.

On that day they started to build there houses. The first little pig built his house of hays which was not that smart. The second little pig built his house of stick which also wasn't that smart. But the 3rd little pig built its house of bricks. That was REALLY REALLY SMART.

On the next sunny day all there houses were built. But suddenly there was a Big Bad Wolf!. The wolf said,” Hmmm where are those scrumptious little pigs. Until he found the first little piggy’s house. The wolf said,”Little pig Little pig LET ME IN”. The first little piggy said,”Ahhh excuse me not by the hair of my CHINY CHIN CHIN. Then our Huff and i’ll Puff and i’ll blow your house down, said the big bad wolf. The big bad wolf took a deep breath and blew his house down. The 1st little piggy said, “Oh No”and ran to the 2nd little piggys house.

When he got to his house opened the door and went inside shocked to death. “Whats going on”, said the 2nd little pig. The the wolf, said the 1st little pig. Just then The wolf said,”Little pig Little pig LET ME IN”. The second little piggy said”, EXCUSE ME not by the hair of my CHINY CHIN CHIN. The big bad wolf took a deep breath and blew his house down.

Task Description: For this task we first watched 4 versions of this story  (the three little pigs). We talked about what were the things in a Three little pigs story, that every version had the same. Then we planned our own version, and wrote it.
